Hi, anyone know if a Westerbeke 13 has enough room for install in a MkIII?

Just thought I'd provide and update, we will exceed our registrants from 2013 and only three more 27's and we'll have our own start. To all, have a great summer! Cheers, Dean

Hi all, well I thought I'd give a little update on the 2013 Race the Cape and once again re-invite all who want to attend the 2014 race this July.
You may notice in November/December issue of Sailing World, a very nice and complimentary three page article on Race the Cape. By all accords it was a huge success! A fantastic wipeout worthy of a photo op, prefaced an exploded chute and later a blown clew in our 150. We finished 3rd in our class only to be outdone by two J-24's and 11th out of 40 overall. We will have a J-24 class next year. And....should we get five or more C&C 27s, we would have a separate class as well. (Just thought I'd throw that out there) The web site is updated and should have the 2014 NOR live by the first week in January.

Has anyone used the Loos Rig Gauge for their shrouds? If so, do you recommend 35 for the upper, 33 for the lower forward and 30 for the lower aft? Cheers, Dean

Although, a good distance to travel...If you have ever had thoughts of cruising the Bras d'Or Lake / Cape Breton Island, here is a reason to go. You are all invited to participate in the first running of the, "Race the Cape" in 2013. www.racethecape.com

Polypropylene. Last year I cut one from lexon, this year I found these: http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=66917&cat=1,43456
Under Lee Valley / Shims. I wanted to see if other Skips had success with 3/8"; I did. Dean

Have any Mk III skippers adjusted their rake by using a shim (3/8") under the forward part of the mast? Did this improve your upwind performace? Dean.

Doug, did you get a chance to snap a photo of your additional table space? Cheers, Dean.

Stéphane, do not transfer your load to the toe rail. Should a decision to split your back stay be made, then plates will have to be inserted / bolted / reinforced to your transom. If racing around the cans, yes you could investigate further for a wheel type of adjuster. http://www.mauriprosailing.com/Wichard-Backstay-Adjusters/WIC5526.html If your main goal is cruising, spend the $115.00 and get a new back stay made with a turnbuckle. Then adjust your tension for the wind conditions with your wrench and screwdriver. I keep my wrench connected with a string, and the inexpensive screwdriver(s) rarely meet neptune. Around the cans, our grinder adjusts the turnbuckle typically ten boats lengths before windward mark and after the chute is set on the down wind leg.

Stephane; I use a spare Genoa snatchblock(s). Widest part of the boat and only dead down wind in strong winds - keeps the chute from oscillating and limits the potential for round-ups. Cheers.

Not sure what the headliner is on a Mk V, but I use PVC peal and stick covers in various diameters from, Lee Valley on my Mk III.

I have the nylon type with a clip at one end. Used the toe rail forward with the clip, and used the aft cleat for the loose end.

Hi all past Atomic 4 owners. I am in a dilemma that I need to rectify by end month. Just a few opinions will suffice then I will request Admin to remove this inquiry. I have a '76 Mk III. My Atomic 4 is toast - no power / cuts out / causes me panic attacks every time I leave port wondering whether or not I will make it back home. Q. Would you purchase a rebuild for $4500 + taxes, shipping & install or a new diesel for $8000 + taxes & install? Bearing in mind - I am very comfortable with the size, age of the boat and would not get it back in resale. Cheers, Dean.

Yes, your height ( luff & leach ) is reflective of your I. This rule does not apply to A-kites though. The bottom part of the sail below the foot is referred to as the foot round, and is incorporated into the design when manufactured. Cheers.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Mike, class rules maybe not, but, handicap outings yes. Handicap reviews should be filed for; a) Spinnaker width greater than 1.8 times J. b) Spinnaker height greater than .95 times the square root of (I squared plus J squared). Basically more the 180% J

In addition to Admin's comments. Some areas prevent the use of PVC covered lifelines for replacements and for the sole purpose of safety restrict the owners to bare Stainless steel. (so that any chafing etc... is immediately visible) In addition, I use 1/8 in. grey AMSTEEL, on my lowers (stronger than steel, floats, and will not absorb water).

Marcus, this is only saving me some measuring. - if you already know - Does the Origo 4100 fit into the current space currently used by the pressurized alchohol stove? Or would cutting be involved? It would save me the trip through the snow and trying to find the ladder buried under the snow. Cheers.

Your lucky - I have 2" screws and washers. I removed the screws, drilled an oversized hole, then filled both holes, deck and handrail with epoxy. Pre-drilled for the screw, layed down a beddding of blackwaterproof guck and tightend down. Now the downside to this is that before I did it the handrail was separated from the deck about 1/8" at the most forward part. Now it is 1/16", it just wouldn't tightend down to deck level. The upside is, there is no more leaking or core getting rotten.
