I have destroyed my spinnaker pole in a slam dunk jibe. The fittings are all OK but need a replacement extrusion. Dimensions: Overall length: 11' 9" (includes end fittings); O.D. 2 7/8", I.D. 2 3/4". Have tried several places unsuccessfully. Does anyone know where I can find one?
[I can think of lots of places, but their suitability really depends on where you are - Toronto? Nunavut? The Solomon Islands? This is one of the reasons - aside from idle curiosity - that we put the location field on our registration page. Tell us where and we might be able to give you an answer that will do you some good. - Admin]

Sorry about that! I'm located in Ottawa (Britannia Yacht Club). The extrusion is an odd size. I can get 2 1/2" or 3" unanodized locally but I'm hoping to find the right size so that I don't have to adapt the fittings.

Try locating a spinnaker pole for a J-30 or similar and trim one end back and re-rivet...... the pole for the 27 is a bit heavy anyways...

Last year I bent my whisker pole during a blow while white-sailing and I did a temporary 'splice' in the bent portion by machining down a piece of Aluminium pipe to suit the diam. in a friend's lathe and I made-do for the rest of the season with the balky extendable pole, however the pole was actually "toast".
This winter I found this place (<A href="http://www.mapleleafcom.com/alum.htm)">http://www.mapleleafcom.com/alum.htm)</A> and here I was able to buy Aluminium tubing in two 'nesting' diameters, so I scavenged the fittings from the old pole, installed them on the tubing I bought and voila, a "new" pole for under $50.00 ( The Chandlery wanted just under $500.00 for a replacement pole !!!).
I don't know if 'Maple Leaf' stock (or could get you) the right diameter aluminium but this place located north of Toronto, gave me great service.

Hi Mike. Presume you've tried Ridalco (used to be Rideau Aluminum Co.) on Michael St (parallel to St. Laurent off Belfast). They carry a broad range of tubular stock and if they don't have the right size, they'll perhaps point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Thanks for the info: however, I tried them and unfortunately their largest size is too small for this application. Will keep looking! Thanks!

I tried Ridalco but they just laughed when I mentioned the dimensions. I might try getting 3" tubing and manufacture adapting collars for the end fittings using the remains of the existing pole. Thanks!
