na">I discovered that the thermostat was closed and rust had accumulated on the platform below. I cleaned out the platform and poured in some antifreeze, initially draining it through the drain plug until the antifreeze appeared pure and then by running the engine for a short time. </SPAN>

na">Second question; how do I remove the impeller? It appears to be pressure fitted, but when I try to pull it off, part of the shaft slides out. I am afraid to pull harder not knowing how the shaft is connected in the gear housing.</SPAN>

Do yourself a big favor, go on line to <A href="http://www.moyermarine.com">www.moyermarine.com</A>.... buy the book that he sells and also go into the guest log etc.... all your questions about the A 4 can be answered there...if not , call Don Moyer himself, a very nice gentleman that is Mr. Atomic 4

When you pull the impeller out, don't fret about the shaft - pull it out. (Taking notice the orientation of the fins) You will then notice how the shaft attaches at the inboard end. After replacing the impeller reverse the process and turn the shaft the direction the fins were when you removed it and the shaft will find its home.
Don't forget the gasket and do not over torque the screw-bolts.

Thanks Dean, I also found a picture of the shaft at Moyer's. It shows the shaft having a fork like slot at the gear end. As you suggested, I will mark the shaft somehow to help with the alignment afterwards.
