A couple of years ago the cable on my mk V broke. Had a mechanic replace it -- not a big job -- all readily accessible. You can get replacement cable in most any marine supply store.

PS: Brake occurred while underway. good to have the emergency tiller not stored too deep in the boat.
Hi Guys,
Thx for all the good advice. I first tried Mavimare for their boarding ladders and they told me they no longer ship to the States. Thoroughly explored the net, and it appears that no one makes a simple one piece 4/5 step ladder that can be offset and will swing up or down. Then tried a local yard to fabricate one and they don’t want to be bothered with it. Ultimately, I ordered a 4 step telescoping ladder and modified it with an offset at the bracket ( 1 1/2 inch Starboard and two pieces of 2 inch soft tubing. See photos below. My guess is that it should work and still have two steps in the water. Certainly not my first choice!
Have a MK V (#529) with wheel and would like to install a drop ladder from the stern. Any suggestions on an appropriate manufacturer and model?

I too use the deck attachment point as a downhaul for the spinnaker. It is a bit awkward when jibing to bring the pole around in front of that baby stay. When racing and handling the pole, that baby stay is a great place to hold on to. love the name of your boat. What headsail and sailmaker do you use? Happy with them?

Hi Guys and Gals,
Need a little advice. I have a C&C 27 MK V and need to replace the furling 150/155 — will be doing a little bit of Club racing. I’m thinking of a Tri-radial dacron from Precision using Challenger Warp drive. Also, I see Precision has a laminate, made from Contender Black Polyester Racing ZZP09. Love the look and that you can see through it. Big question — how long will the laminate last — especially with it often hitting the baby stay. I guess I can eliminate the baby stay? Your experience and advice, please. Anybody use Precision? Not locked into using that sailmaker, though they are much less money.

Have a 1984 Mk V with a Pedestal/Wheel. One of the Wire cables broke. However, the mechanic has had trouble replacing it as it keeps coming off of the sheave. Anybody have any experience like this and any insight on the problem?

Hi Brian,
Might you have an image of the stern ladder in place that you can email to [deleted]? Any markings on the ladder that might identify the manufacturer?
Thanx.

Can anyone recommend a ready made stern mounted swim ladder for a Mk V? And where best to mount it?

Greatly appreciate your advice. The boat is already setup for spin use -- Spin halyard, topping lift, all fed back through clutches at the cockpit. All except for a downhaul!!! I too am very wary of drilling new holes through the deck --- future leaks. I'm now thinking of making a small hole through the deck plate that holds the babystay. Have to check and see if there is room at the plate. I suspect it is not at the best location --- too far back -- but might be OK.

I'd much prefer to keep the weight low, even if it means storing the pole below deck. Any thoughts about the downhaul?

Only purchased the mk V , #529, in 2013 and plan on flying the spinnaker this year. A few questions for you guys/gals. There is no deck padeye to attach the pole downhaul. Do I need to add one and where best to place it? Without a deck padeye, where else would you attach the downhaul? Also, is there a good place on deck to store the pole? What attachments would you recommend?
To put this in prospective, the boat has only been used for daysailing and now I may do a couple of weekend club races (Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club, NJ). Even if I go spin division, I don't anticipate having a total in crew of more than three. Need to keep the setup simple.
