Hi all,
I just purchased the 1985 hull with a excellent trailer that was on the market in San Diego CA.
Her current name is Binky and that will be chaging to Renovatio.
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how the mast wiring is run through the deck of the cabin top.
The wiring needs to be replaced and I seem to be having troble finding the wires inside the port access panel in the interior cabin roof.
Looking forward to many years of sailing this fine boat and cahting with all of you. This is my 8th boat and so far the largest I've owned.

Hi
I believe (but can`t prove it) that the factory led the wiring on top of the liner, then laid the deck on top. It is not in a channel and on my boat it can`t be pulled in either direction. I gained access by cutting a hole in the liner under the fitting that leads through the deck. You MAY be able to fish a wire between the liner at the mast (after cutting that hole in the liner) and the deck down to the port side of the boat, then run the new wires along the lip in the liner at the side of the boat. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks Jim, I was afaid this was the case. I just didn't want to start cutting holes in her if I didn't have too.

Hi,
I just did the same job on my MK5. I cut a 1" hole before the main bulkhead above the folding table. I was able to fish the 4 wire to the mast from there, then fish the rest individually to the port side and then back to the pannel. A very frustrating job!
Good Luck.
that 1" hole was in the cabin liner?
i.e. you fished from the panel to the liner on the top of the cabin at the 1" hole to the liner just under the mast (above the head)

Hi,
I cut a 1' hole just above the folding table at the main bulkhead, then fished the 4 wire to the deck connector at the mast step. I striped the outer covering on the exposed wire in the cabin then fished the individual wires down the port side and ran the wire in the liner edge on the port side back to the panel. There wasn't enough room to fish the intact 4 wire to the port side.
I hope that helps!

Sneaky Pete & Jwente,
After closer inspection, I found that my existeing wiring to the mast was OK. The problem was with a corroded connector between the hull wiring and the mast wiring. After cooking the connector in Pepsi for 24hrs, it is like new and has been re-installed on the boat.
After rebuilding all 4 whiches and installing a bypass raw water intake pipe for the engine so I colud clear the salt water and have a place to pump in an antifrezze/water mixure this winter, I'm ready to splash Renovatio on Oct 4th.
