Hi
I have purchased the boom kicker for my MKV and need to remove the forward end of the boom and the braket on the mast that holds the boom so the attaching slides can be installed in the mast and boom.(sorry don't know the name of the bracket) The end of the boom and the bracket are rivited on and I need to know what size rivits they are and wether they are stainless or just regular steel???
Thanks Jim

Jim:
The rivets are likely aluminim or stainless steel, if they aren't rusted they surely aren't steel. As to the size it's, best to drill them out and then size the new rivets to fit the holes (you might end up enlarging the holes as you drill out the old rivets. Most of the load at that point it shear so I would replace them with stainless steel if I were you.
Where are you sailing out of?

Thanks Steve
I figured I would have to drill them out then find out what size. I will probably just put stainless in even if they are aluminim. That is going to be a project for next weekend.
I sail out of Collingwood on Georgian Bay.
The ironic thing here is I named my boat a year ago when I first brought in up out of the usa then when checking out this board I saw a post of yours with a name very simular. Sorry about that.
