Props for A4 vs Yanmar Diesel

I sold my MK2 with A4 engine to buy a MK 3 with yanmar y8 motor.  I moved the folding prop from the MK2 to replace the fixed prop on the MK3 and fitted the MK 2 with the fixed prop from the MK3.  The new owner of the MK2 tells me that his transmission work fine on reverse but it skips to neutral when put forward.  I have no problem with the folding prop on my MK3 but a colleague told me today that forward is moving the transmission stick downward, whereas in my situation I move the stick upward for moving forward.

The question, is it possible that the Yanmar motor uses a left rotation prop while the A4 uses the opposite? And is there a risk to the motor of using the wrong prop, ie using the reverse to steer the boat forward?

Answers to these questions will be appreciated.  And does anyone have a prop for the A4 for sale if the problem with the MK 2 is that she was fitted with the wrong prop. I am morally obliged to correct this situation. Thanks

Re: Props for A4 vs Yanmar Diesel

It is possible that the Y8 uses an LH prop, but it isn't very likely. All the props in our prop collection are RH.

I can't give you details on the Y8, but generally, reverse gear is intended for brief usage -- a 'reverse out of slip for a minute, shift into forward, motor for an hour, reverse into slip' type of relationship. It's not intended for continuous duty.

The original yanmar diesel would be L/H rotation, the A4 will be damaged from constant drive in reverse (noisy as well). I'm not positive about the reverse idler gear on the yanmar, but it probably won't like constant use.

Is Kokopelli a bright yellow hull? a boat of similar hull number was at eyc for 3 or 4 years.

Thanks for the info. Yes Kokopelli is the boat from EYC. I shall make the right adjustment not to ruin the two motors.
