I have a 27 foot Mark 2 CC and have just recently purchased. The boat sits in our bay and I cannot seem to isolate the clanging inside the mast at anchor.

The sound seems to be coming about 6 feet up the mast and I have isolated each internal halyard and cannot seem to find the source.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop the clanging.....?

Hi CSC,
The usual culprit here is the radio antenna cable. There a couple of solutions for the problem but the only one I've used (and had good success with) is a dozen or so 8 inch electrical cable ties. Tie a good stout cord or flexible wire to the upper end of the VHF cable and draw the cable out of the base of the mast (meanwhile pulling the cord or wire into the mast). Now, install one cable tie about every 3-4 feet along the length of the cable pulling each tie tight around the cable and trying to orient each one so its "tail" is at about 60 degrees to the previously installed one. (The cable should like like a porcupine). Leaving the ends of the cable ties projecting, draw the cable back up to the top of the mast using the cord/wire and reconnect the antenna. The cable ties will keep the VHF cable more or less centred in the mast and will not interfere with halyards and wires. No more annoying clank-clank-clank!!!

I wrapped my cables in pipe insulation,tied with cable ties. I have had no problems with halyards and there is definitely no clanging.
May I ask how you did this? I presume you unstepped the mast? I have the same problem on my MKII. I thought is was the halyards and just ran new rope/wire halyards last weekend and realized that wasn't the culprit. I figured afterward that it was the VHF cable. Thanks, Rob

Rob, Unfortuneatly, you'll have to unstep your mast in order to pull the cable up through the base after you've affixed the cable ties.
