I ordered a racing foil and was delivered Harken 7000 instead of 7001 (12 meters). The first takes luff tape #5 while the second takes tape #6. I found it cheaper to change the foil than change the tape of all my sails. Now I have the 7000 that was used exactly two weeks for sale. I cut the foil to fit my Mk 3 boat, so it can fit any mark 3 right away, and with a further cut can fit any mark 2 or 1.
I paid for it C$ 630 plus tax, and willing to sell it for C$ 400. If you are interested make sure that your sails have #5 tapes or you'll face the same problem I had. The foil is presently in Ottawa, Ontario.

Hi Mike,
I am very interested in the foil, but I am not sure how to measure the wire (tape) size on my headsails. Presently, I have a dual slot aluminum foil that is showing its age and I am not sure if this was standard rigging or an option in 1979.
Can anyone help on this one?

Hi
Get a calliper and measure the thickness of the tape, if it is 5mm, then it is tape #5 if it is 6mm, then the tape is #6. It is that easy. Please note that tape #6 will also fit in the 7000 series but if you race the boat and need the sails up and down fast, then you must stick with the right size.
Thanks for your interest.
