Hi,
Does anyone know where I might acquire a stanchion base for my C&C Mark 5. One of these bases has a crack in the metal.

Hi Dave,
Go to the 'search' item on this forum and just enter "stanchion base"--- there's a thread there that will lead you to a few a few options.

Further to this information request, the stanchion bases on my Mk III are 1" and the stanchions are 7/8" with a plastic insert to take up the extra space. These inserts are showing their years and I have been searching for a replacement at auto parts stores (nylon bushings) plumbing shops, etc. but have not been able to find anything suitable.
Suggestions?

Hi Clare,
Thanks a million. In one phone call I solved my problem with your advice. I am sending in my membership application and cheque to this group as we speak!!!
Thanks
David
I solved this issue on my C&C 25 by buying stainless tubing with a 1-inch outside diameter and a 7/8-inch inside diameter. I cut this into 4-inch lengths and then beveled the edges. The 4-inch lengths were then slipped onto the bottom of my 7/8-inch stanchions, bonded in place with some Sikaflex (or 3M 4200). Once this was done, I only had to drill a fresh hole for the screw which secures the stanchion into the base. I found it best to make a quick and dirty jig out of scrap 2x4 lumber, to hold one of the stanchion bases and each stanchion on a drill press. Remember to use cutting oil and slow speed when drilling the stainless. The reason for making the over-sleeves 4 inches long was so that they would further reinforce the stanchion at the critical point where it leaves the base, which is where stanchions usually end up bending. With the bevelled edge, the over-sleeves blended in well and did not look at all out-of-place. I will be doing this same process with a couple of the stanchions on my 27 Mk. III this summer.
I obtained the stainless tubing from Mason's Chandlery (The Store) in Port Credit. You can undoubtedly order it from them over the phone and have them send it to Dryden. Good Luck!
