Spoiled paint.

I recently had my MK I hauled from Florida to Lake Superior. I was heartbroken to see the hull and deck had black oil, soot or diesel spots covering it.  The spots were definitely from and exhaust stack.
I promptly got all geared up to scub it down.  No onboard cleaner was succesfull. I could scub through it but removed white paint and dulled the spot. It is my hope that some one has a cheap fix.
The salt water was hard on the chrome, This may be a long term project, but in both cases I look foward to the wisdom and experiences of this group. Thanks Dan

Re: Spoiled paint.

Have you sought any satisfaction from the company that hauled your boat? As for solutions, why not call a trucking company and ask what they do to keep their trailers clean?

Re: Spoiled paint.

The hauling company was 2nd choice, Impatence set in and I got what I paid for. I believe the moto I heard twice was... no cash, no splash.  But I would think the Idea of contacting a Trucking out fit may help.  All haulers must have had this happen with a particular truck, or condition
Thanks.

Re: Spoiled paint.

Sorry Dan, but I had a bit of a brain fart. My brother-in-law's a long-distance truck driver with his own rig who specializes in automotive transport! I've e-mail him for suggestions. I don't expect to hear before the weekend but I will expedite any further advice. Cheers.

Re: Spoiled paint.

Hi Dan. Finally heard from trucker B-i-L but I'm not sure the advice is worthwhile in that he transports cars and any spotting is on baked enamel. He suggested lacquer thinner and even carburetor cleaner. Given the porosity of gelcoat, I'd be reluctant to try either because they're petroleum products. You might want to ask around about non-petroleum based cleaners. Sorry.

Re: Spoiled paint.

I wish to thank you for looking into it anyway,  I will try the carb cleaner. The theory is that the stain or spot is  petro based, Why not try cleaning it with the same.
I would be guessing there are 1000+ finger nail spots. I know I can find a an out of site spot to perform the test.
Thanks
