Cushion covers Mark V

Can we remove zip-off cushion covers on the Mark V, put them in the washing machine and dryer and then fit them back onto the foam innards?
Any experiences with this?

It probably depends on what the covers are made of, but I did it last year and they came up bright and clean, without shrinking.
I suggest you mark all covers and foam 'innards' ( good name) when you pull them apart as I had a bit of a battle matching them up last time!! My innards were wrapped in thin plastic sheeting to keep them dry even if the covers were soaked by wet gear, spilled drinks, water through the companionway in heavy weather etc etc.  You will be amazed what a pile of material is involved, several home-sized washing machine loads unless you go to a  laundromat with commercial sized units.

From a similar experience, I learned that shrinkage seems to occur mostly at the end of the dryer cyle when the material is finishing the full dryer cycle. I had better luck, monitoring the dryer carefully to avoid completely drying the material then  stuffing the 'INNARDS' back into still-damp covers and letting them fully dry later.

You will extend the life of the material if you wash them by hand in the bathtub, spin dry them in the washing machine, and especially let them dry naturally, and not in the dryer.

While you've got all apart, you might want to consider replacing the foam. Our original foam (1982) had the resilience of a wet sponge, so you effectively ended up sitting or lying directly on the boards below. The new material is comfortably firm.
