cutless bearing

does anyone know the allowable movement of the shaft in the cutless bearing i have 20 thousanths inches up and down and don't know when
i need to replace it can't find anything in manuels

This may come across a bit vague, but a very experienced marine mechanic told me that if you feel it's sloppy, you should replace it. I'd translate it to mean that if it moves perceptibly, it's too loose.
