Any special tips wrt to mast tuning beyond what's in the manual for a Mk V?

The instruction in the Mark V manual to "tighten the turnbuckles until they get difficult to turn" isn't very helpful. Every sailor interested in getting the best performance from his/her boat should have a Loos gauge or equivalent device for measuring the shroud and stay tension. For the Mark V with 7/23" upper and lower shrouds, you can start with a setting of about "33" on the Loos gauge, which is about 870 lbs of tension. This is about 14% of the nominal 6300 lbs breaking strenght of the wire. For the intermediate shrouds, of 3/16" wire, a setting around 400-500 lbs would be a good starting point. With the adjustable backstay tensioner, the backstay and forestay tension are variable. This should complete the "at the dock" phase of mast tuning. Then proceed to the on the water fine tuning described in the manual.
Does anyone have a specific recommendation about mast rake to add to this discussion? The manual recommeds about 6" of aft rake measured at the gooseneck. Does anyone have experience that would suggest modifying this? My boat seems to "naturally" fall at about 12" of rake+prebend, and to achieve a 6" rake would take most of the threads out of the backstay turnbuckles.
