I am a new owner of a 1985 MKV and am in the process of familiarizing myself with the boat and refitting some of the lines and rigging. The boom has three lines in it. It appears that the center line may be the outhaul, but I am not sure. The other two lines I haven't a clue, maybe reefing lines? Can any one help me with this?

Yes, the other two lines are for reefing. I too have a 1984 Mark V, Gemini. I did the same thing last year - spent a few months figuring things out. Good Luck. It's a great boat, and I hope you have lots of fun sailing it.
On my Mark V, Magique, it seems that the #2 reef line had suffered from lack of use so the blocks in the boom are frozen. I imagine that with enough lube and working of the reef line that they will eventually unfreeze. Or I can assume I will never need the #2reef and just ignore the frozen turning blocks. Hauling scheduled for Oct. 19th-end of another season-hope we sail faster in 2009-

I have never had to use the 2nd reef
and for the new main I purchased 5 years ago I did not even have a 2nd reefing point installed

Out here in Saskatchewan on Lake Diefenbaker we have fairly frequent need for a second reef.
