Greetings,
I am new to the group and am interested in purchasing a 27 at some time near in the future. I would perfer a Mark III or IV.
I was wondering if the hull above the waterline was solid FRP, or if it contained any type of coring such as balsa? I ask because at one point a sales person for a marine brokerage suggested that some C&C models had and some did not, however he was not able to tell me which!!
I was also told that the earlier Mark Is and IIs did not experience as many problems with the poxs. Is this true and why? Did they change how the fiberglass was formulated?

The hulls on all 27s are solid fiberglas. The decks are cored with balsa.
In my experience the MKI,II,III,IV don't have many blister problems. Some of the MKVs do. Any purchase should be subject to a inspection by a qualified marine surveyor - well worht the money.

My C&C27 MV 1985 that i bought 3 years ago had few blisters on hull and a lot of hairline in the gelcoat ( under the waterline ) due probably to a to much tickness of the gelcoat. I fix the problem myself, by sanding complitely the hull , grind the hairline and blister then clean it and fill with époxy and add 6 coats of Interprotech. Finish with VC17 antifouling.
No problem since then.
And i love my sailboat !
