Need advice!

We are looking for a bit of advice,
We have been looking at 3 different  27 Mk 5's
We need to get an idea of the price of a new main.
We need the dimensions for the spinnaker pole
We also need to get an idea of a price and a good place to get cockpit cushions.
We are planning on racing but want to be able to cruise as well.

Thanks for any help

Bill

One of the things that comes through loud and clear in "how much?" discussions is that you have to specify your location. Prices - particularly for semi-custom items like cushions - vary a lot by region. That said, there was a discussion last fall with an Ottawa suggestion from Ken Pole. Use the search function to locate it by his name or message content: "cushion". There are so many variables in sail purchases that you're probably better off phoning two or three sailmakers for prices. A more useful question might be "What works as a dual-purpose main?" - Admin

Re: Need advice!

Bill:
The spinn pole length for the Mark V (same goes for any boat) is the same as the "J" dimension 10'1".
I bought a new main for my Mark V last year, it was a full out racing sail with 2 full and 2 short battens, one set of reef points, square weave dacron from Doyle as I recall the cost was around $2,000.00.
Where are you located?

Bill:
Glad to hear that there might be another Mark V in the area that want's to come out and race. I'm out of Etobicoke Yacht club and we have 4 Mk V's at our club and one next door at Mimico that race on a regular basis. It would be nice to get you out for some of the weekend fun. You might want to consider Port Credit's LORC Open we can usually get a good turnout for that one and then there is EYC Open in August.
If you are interested in details on sails give me a call and I'll fill you in, 905-856-8333 (daytime) 905-731-5825 (evenings)

Re: Need advice!

re: spinnaker pole.  I bought a wind-surfer carbon fiber mast (used and sold by a retiring windy) and had a local rigger install the jaws etc.they are usually around 15 feet but can be cut down easily. It is nice and light, bendy, really cool

Re: Need advice!

I bought my Quantum main for my MK3 in the lower 2000's last winter.   It was made in Toronto. Normally you can negotiate better in the winter.
