Replacing Stanchions

Does anyone have experience replacing stantion bases?  I cannot see how to remove the two outboard bolts.  I can get to the two inboard, but the outboard ones seem to be behind the cabin liner.  Can they be accessed without taking apart the liner?  Thanks

Details, we need all the gruesome details - what mark of 27, where in the boat - deliver the dirt so we can give you a meaningful answer. Thank you. - Admin

Re: Replacing Stanchions

Sorry. The boat is a 27, Mark V.  The stantion is on the port side, second from the stern - almost across from the companion way.  I just purchased the boat, Gemini. I sail the Chesapeake Bay and keep the boat in Baltimore. I am in the process of fixing up a lot of little things (and big things) such as a cracked stantion base and the redoing the electric panel board. I appreciate the advice and support, and you will be hearing from me often<img src="emoticons/icon_exclaim.gif">.  Thanks

Re: Replacing Stanchions

I think you will find that, on the Mark V, the two out board fasteners for the stantion bases are tapped into the aluminum toe rail. The two inboard fasteners are thru bolted and have nuts on the under side.
You mentioned that you intend to repair the stantion bases. Are you aware that they are a plastic material, not much you can do to repair them, you should try contacting South Shore Marine to see if you can get replacements, you can find their contact info in the links section of this web site, suggest you call instead of emailing you might get a quicker response.
Hope this helps.
