Looking at a C&C 27

Hi!
We're new to the forum, and potential owners. My husband and I have recently looked at a C&C 27 (1971 or '72 - not sure). It is immaculate. We have not had it surveyed yet, but if the boat's real condition is anything like it's cursory appearance, it will be a fabulous boat.
The boat's current name is "Snow Goose". It is currently on the hard at a marina on the Chesapeake Bay. Are any of you folks familiar with this boat, and if so, can you tell us anything about it?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi Lynn,
Glad you could join us. Next time you visit the boat see if you can get the hull number off the plate at the stern. That will provide a starting point.

Re: Looking at a C&C 27

I just bought my 27 last fall.  In searching for C&C 27s through Yachtworld the last couple of years, it looked like "Snow Goose" was for sale for a year or 2 and in all the pictures it was on the hard. My boat was also laid up for a couple of years and although it was in decent shape it took a lot of cleaning up.

Re: Looking at a C&C 27

Hi Greg!
Nice to hear from you.  We're going back to see Snow Goose's cabin Saturday. (Initially, we couldn't get a good look inside due to a nest of wasps who had plunked themselves right inside the hatch.) If all looks well, we'll hire a surveyor, and if the survey comes out positive (no major problems) we'll make an offer on her.  She's very clean, so we're hoping that's a sign that previous owners took good care of her in other respects

I don't know what it is about wasps and boats. When I was looking at my boat before buying it had been laid up for over a year and had a yellow jacket nest in the coiled mainsheet!

Good luck with Snow Goose.

Cheers
Greg

Yikes!  That's terrifying, Greg. I hope you didn't get stung. I spoke with one of the marina guys yesterday, and he said that he  had set off a "bomb" to kill the wasps. I hope it worked, and I hope that no new inhabitants have squatted there. We'd better take some spray, just in case....
Thanks for the your wishes. We're going back to see here tomorrow, then it's only a matter of the survey. We may be the new owners of Snow Goose within a couple of weeks. I'm so excited! It might be putting the proverbial cart before the horse, since we only have "book learning" so far, but at least we'll have a boat to live in during the weekends when we take sailing lessons :-)

Also took a look at snow goose, did you buy it? I am curious what the surveyor had to say? As you said it looked well cared for, although the paint job left a lot to be desired. Didn't make an offer myself, also looking at 30's
