Having acquired a spinnaker, I'm now tackling installation of the requisite hardware. My manual (Fig. 3 mast and rigging) is typically rudimentary in that it only shows 3'6" of the mast track installed above the black tape but no dimension for the track shown below that. Is there a minimum/optimum overall length? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ken. I'll be on the boat this evening and will do some measurements. It's a Mk 1 but could provide a point of reference. GregGreg Tokarz

Hi Ken,
On my Mk 111, the track is 60 inches long and extends 8 inches below and 52 inches above the black band at the gooseneck. My 'car' is currently located 20 inches above the gooseneck and perhaps it's because I'm not a very attentive spinnaker flyer, but the car has never been moved up or down more that 8-10 inches and certainly has never been put anywhere near the ends of the track at any time.

On my MK1, the track starts 8" above the mast step, but is 72" long. Which seems a bit excessive. I can't imagine needing that much adjustment. Right now the car is set at 46" above the bottom of the track.Greg Tokarz

Track installed successfully. The 60" overall length was dictated by the fact that's what my local chandler had in stock. I followed the 27 manual's recommended 3'6" above the goosneck. Drilling and tapping 17 holes on an upright mast made it interesting. Thanks for the input.
