I have a 73 Mark II that is in great shape, but it's time to re-epoxy (interprotect) the bottom.
I just had her surveyed for insurance purposes and noticed that there was, what I thought was osmosis under the, carpet covered, pads (I'm changing the carpet to rubber runners as suggested). The surveyor said that it was not osmosis, but the epoxy lifting due to age. I'll take that as a positive. The last time the bottom was done was about 14 years ago.
Because of my busy schedule it's difficult for me to find the time to do the work myself, so do any of you have any suggestions on the best people to contact to strip and re Interprotect the boat? Do you have an idea of what it costs?

Before you let a doctor chop your head off to cure your dandruff, it's a good idea to get a second opinion. And before embarking on a wholesale stripping and re-epoxying of the bottom, it might be a good idea to speak to the tech specialists at Interlux.
You might have an age-related breakdown – though there are enough epoxy cold-moulded boats from 20 years ago still sailing to make me question this diagnosis – but I'll wager that your problem is just something to do with the wet carpet (as in, the hull not having been sufficiently dry in the way of the carpet when the Interprotect was put on). If I were you, I'd sand just the pad areas to bare gelcoat right now, leave them to dry over the off-season, then re-coat the pad areas before launch. If the problem recurs, you know you've got a real problem. But if it doesn't – and I'll bet it won't – you'll have saved a fair bit of time and trouble.

Thanks Dave, good advice that I will take.
The name 'Tangaroa' is definitely NZ (Maori) but she and we live right here in Toronto.
We'll keep you posted on the outcome, or call for more advise.

Hi Fred,
Agree with David - had a friend with the identical problem and it turned out to be localized breakdown of the barrier coat only under the cradle pads. He refinished those areas, reworked his cradle pads, and hasn't had a re-occurrence in several years...
I hear there's a decent shipwright at your club - maybe he could be coerced into duty for ya when he's not building carbon wonder-projects!
