Sails

So we're thinking about new sails and wanted to hear some words of wisdom on different fabrics, fabric weights, etc.  Anyone have specifics to avoid or look for?

Re: Sails

Well I guess the big question is do you want them for cruising, racing or just shade ???
Then, which ones do you want to replace and how much do you want to spend ???
Cheers !

Re: Sails

We're only cruising within the Chesapeake Bay, so we'll experience mostly light winds, although the other weekend we were out in 15-20knts with gusts to 30knts.
The current sails were made by Scott Sails and are cross cut construction and have seen much better days.
We'd like to keep the cost down, but are willing to spend a few extra dollars for sails that will hold up longer.
In the research that I've done, it seems like every loft has a different weight of fabric that they recommend (for cruising) and no two lofts seem to use the same fabric manufacturer so comparison of cost is difficult.
So any recommendations or suggestions are welcome.
