Stanchion Base for Mark V

Hi all,
I have had my C&C Mark V for 7 seasons (1985, Hull #529). Last last season, I got the short end of the stick in mild collision with a Bristol 44 which zagged when I thought it was going to zig. Long and the short of it is that her anchor caught a stanchion and ripped the base.
I have heard in passing that it is not possible to find replacements for the original plastic bases, and the folks at Shelburne Shipyard (Lake Champlain, Vermont) can not find any either.
So my question: Anyone know where I can find a replacement? Any thoughts on a replacement? Help?

Re: Stanchion Base for Mark V

You can get them from Klacko Marine in Grimsby, Ontario.

p.s. they only build about 120 of the MKVs - so how do you have hull # 529?

Jim,
Thanks for the response. Re: your question. I have no idea! 529 is definitely the hull number and it's definitely a Mark V. Thanks for your email.

Re: Stanchion Base for Mark V

as you have found, that original bases are not to be found....so here is my suggestion..... take off another base, take it to a machine shop or model shop and have them make one for you out of delrin... do not use nylon...... you might want to consider having a couple made for the just in case factor

Steve: if Klacko doesn't have them, check out the "parts and service" section at http://www.southshoreyachts.com, also in Ontario. One of the principals, Rob MacLachlan, was with C&C for many years and if he can't supply your stanchion bases, he might know of someone who can. Best to phone them; they're terrible (and they admit it!) about answering e-mail. Good luck.

Steve - re: hull number - have a look on the "Black Arts" section of the forum - under Hull Identification - it will tell you how to decode the serial number embedded in the transom.

Re: Stanchion Base for Mark V

Jim,
My hull number is CCY27528G485, which translates into hull number 528. (I think I said 529 earlier). Ialso seem to recall someone with a hull number in the 400's on the forum. I also have the original manual and color brochure for the boat (though to be honest I misplaced the brochure a little while ago) and they both match the Mark V materials. That's all I know!

Re: Stanchion Base for Mark V

my hull number is ZCC27069A585, so i believe Distant Thunder was built Jan 5, 1985.
In your serial number
CCY = built in Rhode Island
G485 looks like July 4, 1985
and the "528" is a mystery !
