Remarks have been passed about the Forum chewing up carriage returns, rendering members' long and thoughtful disquisitions into long and unreadable blocks of uninterrupted text.
This ostensibly has been fixed; finding out whether carriage
returns
stay
where
they're
put,
is the purpose of this post.
It won't do anything about the length of long disquisitions, but it will make them more readable.

Wait
a
minute . . .
When did thoughtful become a requirement for disquisitions?
Is it too late to delete my contributions?

The Economics of Saling thread was illuminating and alarming, bringing home the sums we expend on our aged vessels. Then I discovered that it included some DISQUISITIONS. I ogled Google to be sure I was allowed to use that word at my tender age, only to discover it was:
a) A dissertation that presents the author's research and findings, or
b) An elaborate, analytical essay, or
c) A LENGTHY, formal discourse that analyses and explains.....
Under both a) and b) it seems that Towser and Carriden should share the gold medal. Under c), and hoping to avoid being admonished by Admin, the award must go to Carriden.
