ok, so I'm up the mast trying to fix the masthead anchor light, and of course its not as easy as changing the bulb, so I am unsucessful - but I'll be back with the right tools next time!
Anywhoo, so there I am checking things out, and I see this wire sticking out of the port side of the mast:

The boat is a Mk 2 from 1974.
Anyone know what the wire is for/from???
And what's at the other end?
Any ideas??

My MKII does not have the feature. Maybe, something fro stepping the mast with a crane?

Someone might have run a wire or line up and left this there to run future lines.

Is that a stainless steel thimble in a swaged eye on wire? Mighty skookum rig for simply a messenger left there to fish wires. Odd place to run a topping lift, too. Perhaps a rig for supporting the VHF antenna wire? I'm stumped.

Yes end of the season blues do create overproductive minds...
One other thought we had was that it is part of the KRS.
The wha??
Keel Release System - you know, for when the boat is heading for Davy Jones', as the mast sinks past you; reach out and pull the cable and it releases the keel.
The boat floats back to the surface and we motor back to port.
Part of the KRS procedure is to ensure you turn off the electronics before the boat sinks, and also disengage all the laws of logic and physics....
So maybe Silver Fox is fitted with a KRS???
