I am currently replacing the windows on our '87 Mark V.....I have read the article in the black arts....The windows came out very easily, however I am having much trouble removing the old glue /chalking/grout without damaging the frame of the window...whether I chip away at it or use a dremel, I seem to minimally damage the gelcoat or wood---it's hard to know where the window frame begins and ends versus the old adhesive....will these imperfections make any difference once the new adhesive is applied or should these be filled in sanded down....I am now at a point of no return ....any information or advice appreciated...Thanks

I was super-careful in grinding away the old methacrylate glue, but inevitably there were some divots where I went through into the gelcoat or even into the glass (the stuff is incredibly hard, and I wore out a couple of those spiral-cut grinding drums in the process). The methacrylate that I used to replace the windows seemed to take these in stride. If you're using the Sikkens material (or anyone else's for that matter) and you're concerned, you might call their tech support line and ask what they think.

David, thank you for your reply. I plan on using the plexus product mentioned in the "black arts " article and will speak with them. I have one window frame prepared and I think it will be OK.....Thanks again....Steve
