I have just removed the diesel fuel tank from my MKIV after detecting a small leak. A trickle of fuel was getting into the bilge and no noticable source could be traced to any of the connections. The trickle produced about 1 litre in the bilge in a week. The tank is aluminum and C&C was careful not to use disimilar metals in the system.
Once removed I discovered some corrosion on the bottom of the tank and the plywood platfrom supporting the tank was saturated. The tank height is about 14.5 inches and the lazarette opening is 14.25 (what else would you expect). I could remove all the fitings to lessen the height but had to cut off the fill nibble with a hack saw. So I have a few questions: 1) Has anyone experienced a similar problem? and 2) where did you find a replacement tank that is less than 14" high. I would like to replace the tank with another aluminum one.

Are you suggesting that 'nibble' is one of those substitutions like titbits/tidbits, sex/gender, highway 'bump' signs with three lumps instead of two, the attempt to change the pronunciation of 'Uranus', etc., that were foisted on us with the end of preventing outbursts of mindless, red-faced giggling by 15-yr-old boys? - Admin
