I am looking at purchasing my 1st boat, and one of the models I saw today was a Mark IV. The owner mentioned that he thought it was a Mark V...but it has one large window and another smaller window v/s the one large window that I thought was a trademark of the Mrk V. It seems to be a nice boat and looks to be very well maintained and has an atomix 4 gas motor. I would appreciate any views as to the quality or performance issues with the Mark IV
[Before anyone attempts to answer this query, it might help to sort out whether it's a IV or V (believe it or not, there are differences beyond window layout). Read Buying a 27 in Black Arts and follow the suggestions for familiarizing yourself with the differences, then get back to us. Note particularly, since this is your first boat, the admonition to base your purchase on a professional survey. - Admin]

Quick ways to tell: A mark V is close to 2 feet shorter than a mark III or IV, and the rudder is visible on the transom well above the waterline. Mark IV's are pretty rare. That said, still read the site pages on buying a boat. You'll thank yourself later.
