PHRF difference for Shoal Draft?

My Mark V has a shoal draft (3'6").  Anybody out there know of a PHRF rating committee that is giving credit for shoal drafts?  My local PHRF does consider the difference between 4'10 and 3'6" significant enough to credit me.  I am looking for any documented facts.
Thanks.

Re: PHRF difference for Shoal Draft?

Hi ,
A quick look at my PHRF web-site (Lake Ontario) shows two different ratings for Mk V boats racing here but the differentiation is only between inboard and outboard powered versions so if there are any shoal draft Mk V's in the PHRF-LO fleet here, they're having no better luck than you are, in looking for a more favourable rating!!

Re: PHRF difference for Shoal Draft?

You might want to try looking up the rating for a C&C Wave. There really never was a 27 Mark V Shoal Draft. C&C built the Wave which has the same hull as the Mark V but a shoal draft wing keel, a shoal draft rubber and I believe a shorter rig. The boat definately needs a softer rating than a std. Mark V, it doesn't have the same upwind performance.

Re: PHRF difference for Shoal Draft?

Oh there most certainly was a shoal draft keel for the Mark V - and it does NOT have wings!  It was an option to get it, but they did offer it.  I have the original brochure which outlines both keels, and I have the original paperwork where the buyer indicated that a shoal draft was ordered (this boat came from the Chesapeake). This is not a Wave 26. I have a tall rig, and a 3' 6" (1,950 lbs.) keel.  My boat was built in Portsmouth, RI.

[FWIW, our Sea Change page does list a 3'6" keel (at 2075 lb rather than 1950). This was taken from an original manual, I believe. - Admin]

Re: PHRF difference for Shoal Draft?

I had an 87 C&C 27 Shoal draft, it rated 195 with spinaker and with a roller furler and it had a folding prop. DRYA provided rating out of detroit. I believe I received 6 seconds for roller furling, some groups do not allow this.
