I noticed in one of the posts an inquiry about conditions here on the Gulf Coast after Katrina. Galveston / Houston felt no direct effects of the hurricane, experiencing only a north easterly breeze through most of the day. Many of people of SE Texas with families and friends in the New Orleans/Biloxi area are waiting on news of their loved ones and many of the evacuees are sheltering here. The America Red Cross of Houston is providing emergency supplies and shelter to many of the victims. If you consider contributing to the recovery effort for this disaster the Red Cross is worthy of donations.

My wife and I were on the N. shore of Lake Ponchartrain (sp) looking at a paddlewheeler we are considering buying----whilst chowing down on crab cakes and shirmp gumbo we got word of KATRINA'S approach to Florida---so we hit the road and pulled into our Ft Myers marina as the storm passed south of us. All our boats, including our mk 3, had been made "storm ready" with multiple spring lines and bunches of plows and bruces. We got up to 30-35 kts and all was well. We had some surging over the next few days----but 27's sit nicely on their keels with proper spring lines. This was the 4th hurricane for us in less than a year. I'm leaving the anchors set till Nov 30th. It is with great sadness as we view the destruction along the Gulf Coast----not only for the people involved----but the 10's of thousands of boats destroyed. We count our blessings.Dave Tinder

Canadian citizens may contribute to this most worthy cause through the Canadian Red Cross who will in turn forward these funds to the American Red Cross.
I am sure that Canadians will show the same kind of substanial support to our dear neighbours to the south as they did to the Tsunami victims.
With my deepest thoughts and prayers.
