RUDDER POST

I HAVE A 1979 C&C 27. COMPLETE WITH WHEEL STEERING. THE RUTTER POST WITCH GOES THROUGH THE DECK HAS A BRASS FITTING THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE POST BY TWO BOLTS. I BELIEVE THIS IS TO STOP THE RUDDER FROM TURNING TO FAR, AS WELL AS HOLD THE TILLER UP. HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN THIS BREAK? IF SO WHERE CAN I GET THIS REPLACED? THE BOAT IS IN OAKVILLE.
THANKS FOR ALL REPLYS.

Re: RUDDER POST

Try South Shore, listed on our Links page, for a replacement.

You don't specify what you mean by "break", but have you explored having the item repaired? There are a lot of very good machine shops in the Oakville area and one might be able to help. Klacko, of course, is a marine specialist but I'm sure there are others. If South Shore doesn't have the part, one of these might be able to make a replacement.

Please let us know how this turns out.

Broke in half. It split down the middle. I will try the site you mentioned,
Thanks!

Re: RUDDER POST

Suggest that you consider a shaft collar as I did when replacing my mK.2 rudder with a mk.3/4 rudder. I had mine made of stainless steel but I do believe that you can buy one from industrial supply companies such as McMaster-Carr, Acklands, or Weber Supply in Kitchener. The O.D.diameter on mine was 1 7/8" which I believe is the same for yours. You might want to verify this if you proceed in this direction.
