#1 Re: General discussion » MKV Hull/Deck Joint sealant ? » 2019-09-09 03:09:33

I wasn't sure where JWente was from ? I would suggest too tighten his bolts up as we both did . Maybe the issue is larger and requires separating the the deck liner from the hull to rebond ? That job i would suggest he shops where the pros shop and not the the local chandlery . In the GTA i would go directly to Composites Canada and fallow their Technical Advice

That is a BIG JOB wow! Why use mid 80's products? Structural Adhesives of today are far better ! This question should be asked of your friendly neighbourhood Composite Supplier and what two part  Methacrylate Structural Adhesive  they carry and recommend . Work times & flex very ,  you'll need a longer work time to get all those bolts snug . I snugged my bolts up on my MK3 some are hard to access but the little water run marks have gone away.

#10 Re: General discussion » Cleaning gelcoat » 2017-01-31 22:21:35

Have you tried to remove Poly Glow with their remover ? Their own remover doesn't work .
There was an out break of Poly glow or vertglas or any other name it's  marketed under in Niagara by a detailer who was using it . Now there is a lot boats with delamination of the clear coat pruduct  . If you can wet sand through gelcoat with 800 grit paper you're spending way too much time in one spot . Poly glow or vert glass doesn't remove the oxidation it just puts clear nail polish over it . Deal with the oxidation then maintain your Gel Coat , your boat will shine brighter than the cloudy vert glass boats.  AQUA BUFF , AQUA BUFF!

Why not fallow the wire from the instrument ? I highly doubt C&C wired a wind vane pre deck
install .

#20 Re: General discussion » marvel mystery oil » 2015-07-21 22:47:14

I'm not much of a potion & lotion believer . I do change my oil regularly and use Lucas Oil additive . I run fuel from my Yacht club's pump just a regular gas i think ? I installed  a Mercury Quicksilver water separating fuel filter kit which made a huge difference . When i winterize i undo the filter and put 2 stroke oil into the fuel filter and run it through till stall . This practice also forces you to change the filter in the spring . I only use Quicksilver oil from Mercury , just what i like no other reason . The Atomic is great engine and not that fussy , regular maintenance and quality products the engine performs amazing . The valve seats can be an issue and things need rebuilt . No potion or lotion is going to cure low compression from a worn valve seat .

I like oil based Gel Stains a little more vertical surface friendly . unless you like runs and drips of liquid stains . Mahogany from Minwax is the closest match in my opinion . Tint is a personal thing , each product has it's own colour chart .

I have Mk3 and have a double sheave front and back on my masthead .

i think Klacko Spars ltd. supplied the masts and metal work for C&C at that time .

#24 Re: General discussion » Replacing Atomic 4 with Yanmar YSB8 » 2015-02-16 23:55:52

The Moyer engine is $4880.00 plus tax , plus shipping , plus $700.00 core charge (if engine is rebuildable)

Beta Marine has  good diesel replacement for the atomic 4 (beta 14)

I'm sailing on a budget so searched high and low for a good runner used Atomic 4 and ended up getting electronic ignition with the used engine i found for $1400.00 , i also cleaned out the fuel tank (nasty) and installed a in line water separator fuel filter .very pleased and it ran fantastic last season

I also think that the yanmar is underpowered for your application
