#1 Re: General discussion » Mark II Prop Shaft Question » 2012-07-04 06:16:24

Thanks Roger.  I have it all apart and am going to go with a new ss shaft per your suggestion.  I will send photos.  I'm also going to replace the cutlass bearing.   I cannot tell for certain if the outside diameter is 1 1/4 or 1 3/8.  Do you happen to recall by chance?  Thanks again!  Rob

Hello, I made the mistake of thinking of could pull the shaft on my 1973 C&C 27 Mark II to replace the stuffing box hose.  Wow.  I finally have the coupler off (after cutting the bolt heads) and am about the simply cut the shaft as close as I can to the coupler.  I'm hoping I may have enough extra length on the prop end to simply move it up so I can re-use the shaft.  If not, has anyone replaced their shaft recently.  Is it a double tapered shaft?  I just ordered a split coupler from Moyer Marine.  Anyone try one of those?  Thanks a bunch and all the best!  Rob Goeke

May I ask how you did this?  I presume you unstepped the mast?  I have the same problem on my MKII.  I thought is was the halyards and just ran new rope/wire halyards last weekend and realized that wasn't the culprit.  I figured afterward that it was the VHF cable.  Thanks, Rob

I just replaced all my MK II cabin cushions.  Got a great price from JSI -2k with shipping for the whole set with sunbrella and four inch foam.   Ask for Jane.  Anyhow, I hate to throw out the old ones.  They are yellow/black plaid with solid yellow v-berth.  Let me know if anyone is interested.  The cushions are in great shape with a minor tear in the starboard settee.  Best, Rob

A great tip and a very nice offer - but read the experience of old cushions in Black Arts, Buying a 27 - sometimes you've gotta let go. - Admin

Hey, I've been sailing/racing my Mark II for 13 years on the Chesapeake Bay.  Never been aboard a Mark V and have been curious as to how they compare.  A guy in my marina has one and I've noticed myself admiring the simplicity of it -- reminds me a lot of my MKII except it has a wheel which I've never seen on a MKV before and seems a bit much to me.  Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has sailed both and can compare the two.  Thanks!
