I am looking for a true Mk III/IV; traveler in front of tiller, inboard rudder, built between 1973 and 1983. Can't remember where I saw the 172 rating, probably on a scratch list which may have been a Mk V.
What do you sail and what does it rate with spinnaker? How does it do on Erie in light and moderate air?
Jim,
Thanks for the info.
Any particular sailmaker have an edge with this boat? Do most competitors use racing Dacron sails, or more exotic carbon, laminated or tape drive sails?
Looking for a Mk III or IV with tiller steering and dark blue or red hull. If you have one for sale, please send photos, history and equipment list to me at RobC222@comcast.net
Thanks,
Am considering purchase of a MK III or IV and plan to club race in PHRF. I have seen a rating of 172 with spinnaker, and am wondering if she is competitive at that rating. If anyone has raced this boat, please give me your opinion of whether or not she can be competitive in PHRF . Email me at RobC222@comcast.net
Also, any tuning, rigging, boat handling, sail trim or boat speed tricks would be appreciated.
Thanks,
