I have finally decided to convert my mark 2 rudder to a mark 3 design. I have studied all the "black arts" info by Ralph and company, and I am ready to give it a go. One thing however that is not on the site, that I could use, is an actual template for the mark 3 cross-section. On paper or such through the mail would do. Can anybody help?

I see in "black arts" that Serendipity was planning to use a trackless "double tackle " mainsheet system. I am thinking about this for by mark2. How did it work out? Any suggestions?

No, havn't heard on Electric Seas, but I will check it out. I have joined the online forum "electricboats" on Yahoo, but I find it to be dominated by techies discussing topics such as how to build your own charger etc. A little beyond my level ........

I'm depending on a performance spreadshhet I found on Thunderstruck's website. Speed in a huge factor. The numbers I am working on are;
At 2 knots to 80% discharge = 32 miles.
At 3 knots ................ = 10 miles
At 5 knots ................ = 3 miles.
When sailing the spinning prop is supposed to give some re-charge. As I sail out on Santa Cruz there is always wind, except occasional winter days when there is a cold high pressure sitting on us.

I just installed an electric motor in my Mk2 ( the old Atomic 4 was long dead and siezed up). I used a 5KW motor kit from Thunderstruck and US27DC FLA batteries.Its only been a few days, but so far we just love it, lots of power, just turn the key and push the throttle to be away, such a change from using an outboard. The installation was fairly easy, about 15 hours work done over the Christmas holiday. The cost for the Thruderstruck kit and batteries came to US$3400.00. Not bad compared to the alternatives.

It looks like I have a little engineering job to do. That swept back rudder when in reverse can whip the tiller out of your hand. Not a pleasant picture with my new prop. There is a casting on the front of the post, seems to be only to rest the tiller on, maybe a stopper key could be bolted to it and some kind of plate with a stopper fitted below it ...............?

I'm slowly getting my MK2 fixed up. I just got a new shaft and prop fitted for the electric motor I intent to install.I have realized that my rudder can rotate 360' when the tiller is raised, and would hit the prop. Is there a standard restraint system that should be fitted?

Thank you David. I have decided to also replace the P'bracket bearing. The supplier wants to know the bearing OD dimention, and the strut ID dimention. Would you by any lucky chance know what these might be??

3" to the stuffing box is about the same as with the Atomic 4. It shows one and a half inches between the gearbox coupling and the stuffing box. So the same lenght shaft will probably do.... But what length is it??

I'm planning to put an electric motor in my Mk2. The current Atomic 4 is long dead and some previous owner cut the end of prop shaft. To save on boatyard costs I am hoping to have all the necessary bits assembled before lifting the boat out. I figure I'll need a shaft about 2" longer than the current, measured from inside the boat. But, without taking the boat to the yard and taking the old shaft out and measuring, I don't know what actual new length I'll need. If I knew the original length of the old, I could calculate from there. Anybody have any ideas?
