Calling ALL C&C 27 MKS!
The AshBridges Bay Yacht Club (Toronto) is hosting LYRA 2014 RaceWeek from July 26 to August 3rd.
As I am volunteer coordinator on the ABYC LYRA Race Committee, I am making a specific effort to start organizing interest amongst our class association for C&C27s. I have started compiling a list of interested 27 owners/racers to create our own line-start this year at LYRA.
With the amount of 27 MK owners on the lake, particularly the North Shore, 2014 can be the start of a great resurgence for these fantastic boats. Please let me know who is interested, and if we can all get registered early. If anyone else wants to help generate LYRA2014 interest for C&C27s, including stateside, feel free to contact me. Thanks.

Hi Mike,
Haven't been on here in awhile. Do you still have that spinnaker? I may be driving to Montreal this weekend and would be interested in viewing. Let me know. I will check back here tomorrow. Thanks.

Looking to race this weekend at RCYC Royals, but need a reasonable used headsail (hank on). Raced at LYRA last week and shredded my 155 genny in second last race on Sunday. Finished 1st overall for Saturday but ended up 3rd overall for the weekend, so would like to keep practicing. Definitely would like to race EYC as well. ALSO! Would like to find a reasonable spinnaker AND pole, AND spinnaker fittings for mast. Boat has never had spinnaker, and definitely want to get setup for next summer. Contact me at consortmkv@yahoo.com (asap please!) Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. Will follow up with Cam at Fogh if possible. Steve your point about line handling comfort for crew is noted. Have to say I'm disappointed at hearing I must apparently still listen to crew now that I'm the owner/captain. I was looking forward to enforcing the bread/water routine but I guess those damn democrats have made inroads everywhere;}
I will likely stay with 7/16 for Main/Genny sheets as noted in site guide, and 3/8 for the rest. Interesting that you have smaller lines throughout the boat David. Do you race a lot or just comfortable with those lighter lines? Definitely going with multi-colour rope for the overall learning curve (myself and crew) which means I cannot take advantage of the price points I was hoping for but that seems par for course. I am expecting to get at least one spool of 3/8 Spectra up from the states this Christmas and may have extra if anyone is interested. As to the clutches, these are the original red/green Schaeffer's that seem quite worn so I am expecting to replace them and will match rope sizes as required. I am both looking forward to probably living at the Boat Show, and wondering just what is in store for my budget in January. But it's all good, and thanks again.

Hi All,
Bit of a long question here. Searched the forum for my rope info but no luck so far. Couple of questions on rope size and cost. Outfitting all new lines on my MKV. Wondering if anyone has specific manufacturers/dealers to check on best pricing for hybrid performance ropes cost effective to Toronto. Regarding size, the site guide says mostly 3/8 needed with a bit of 7/16 for select lines. A friend with many racing honours tells me 3/8 size for the entire boat is more than enough. Real questions are should I spring for Spectra and what is good local price? Is another combination of line same quality and same price or less? My own research has turned up fairly significant price differentials between dealers on Spectra alone that don't seem to make too much sense. $350 per foot and $155 per foot on same quality Spec. Is anyone buying by the spool and need a partner or interested in going that route this winter? I'm thinking I may actually invest in a 3/8 Spectra spool and try to trade the remaining(maybe?) Would love to hear otherwise. Thanks for the input.

Thank you to Scott Fraser and Steve Reid for putting together the 1st? MKV owners meeting in Etobicoke last week, and apparently a good turnout with 14/15? people. Great to meet everyone and discuss event potential for next year, as well as general MKV stuff. Regarding one of the ideas presented, IMHO, it would be fantastic to try and develop a special event/class start? for 27s and MKV's next year. Not sure I can bring anything to table on that but let me know.
While the learning curve for me as a new boat owner seems to be getting steeper, I am encouraged by all the helpful advice. Steve, I will contact you offline about our sail discussion. Thanks again.

Thanks Alan,
I did think the Barient 18 size might be an obstacle on the cabin-top depending on placement, but I did not think of individual load. Not sure what the practical difference would be but I'm not an engineer so I'll have to research. I'll add the EBay research onto my long list.
Any insight into my hull heritage question regarding build numbers? Look forward to meeting you at EYC next week. Thanks again.

Hello All,
MKV Hull heritage question: The MKV history page here says MKV hulls produced in NOTL (ZCC) number from #2 thru #169, with Rhode Island hulls starting at #500 and up. My hull is ZCC#170. Anyone know how I might clarify this? Obviously there are 1988 and 1989 MKV's (1990/91?) out there, so are these all the Rhode Island boats? Is the info on this page correct? I am interested in finding out if my hull is the last one or one of the last out of the Niagara facility. I do know that a couple of C&C employees ordered the boat off the production line and gave it a few tweaks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Steve,
Thanks for invite. I will definitely try to come out to that meeting. I sailed out of EYC and MCC years ago on a couple of CnC34s. I have also started my search to replace my Barient 18s for a couple of 2speed self-tailing winches for the combings. Probably "30s"? If my current 18s are usable after cleaning, my intention is to add them to the cabin top to complement the 10's (singles) already there. I've seen MkVs with six winches and am wondering if this exercise would be eventually useful for racing? Any search tips would be great. Thanks.

Hello All,
New member with 1st boat. Sweet '87 MkV now out of Ashbridges Bay Toronto. Great to see this forum and looking forward to learning a lot about our new boat. I will be taking inventory of what we need for next summer in the way of sails, winches, gear, etc. Hope some of you have some stuff for sale as well as potential tips on rig setup and maintenance.
We will be mostly cruising next summer but I have raced for a few years on other boats. We do intend to race as soon as we can find a reasonable price for racing sails and related gear. Definitely looking forward to sailing this little boat, and "messin' about" on the water. See you out there.
