on my mkV the wiring for my wind vane passes through a hole drilled just ahead of the mast step, runs down the bulkhead into the hanging locker to the bottom corner then through the bulkhead into the stowage area under the bench along there and through to the engine compartment and then up under the cockpit floor and up through to the pedestal ...hope this helps

I find it humorous every time someone suggests to remove the wheel and replace with a tiller, lmao lol
cars were once steered with with a stick, airplanes with a stick and so on, times change and so does technology
a wheel isn't a disadvantage its a mechanical advantage , it may take up cockpit space but this is easily overcome by becoming a competent sailor
stop living in the dark ages and get with the program ppl

To anyone with of knowledge replacing the rudder drive
MKV's with wheel steering have the rudder driven by a drive telescoping cable and rod which I am in need of replacing due to some free play
Looking for anyone that has experience or knowledge of how to execute the replacement
please chime in if you can assist in the procedure
cheers!

Need to know the measurement for waterline to hull bottom on mkv so I can setup depth meter offset for accurate depth sensing
Thanks

Been down the south shore road, they weren't as helpful as I had hoped
Word back from Edson is, that the steering is not there's
quite possible the tech isn't old enough to know, possible a one off design commissioned for C&C for the MK V,
I believe the pedestal to be Edson, all of the controls seem to be of the same, whether or not the rest of the steerage is or is not, is the question
thought I was getting somewhere,

Ken,
thanks for the insight, I am now in communication with Edson,
their website doesn't have anything downloadable for the MkV steering system, it is unique
currently awaiting reply from their tech dept
thanks again for the steerage in the direction

Steve,
no hydraulics here
no adjustment at the tie rod where it attaches to the rudder
the steering cable where it connects to the chain drive is concealed within the pedestal
I've had a look from underneath and nothing to see,
I'm of the mind that the pedestal needs to be disassembled to gain access to the point of connection, whether there is an adjustment there, I do not know
I may just send an email to Rob at south shore yachts, I'm sure he knows
thanks for the input though

thanks for the reply,
my boat being a Mark V and having and external rudder design, the steering mechanism is outboard , quit different than earlier generations
the cable/rod exits the transom and is then attached to the rudder via a simple tie rod end to bracket on the rudder
the tie rod end is press fit and it is my hope that the adjustment/threaded end is housed internally
when at the boat next, I will remove the rod end and give it a turn
hope I have good results, as it is now, the auto helmsman has a difficult time keeping a steady course due to the free play
cheers again!
have MkV and looking for any guidance in adjusting free play in the rudder steering cable
had a look below deck and cannot determine the point where the chain drive and the cable attach
I'm guessing the union may be hidden in the binnacle, and if so how do I gain access to a point of adjusment
any help appreciated

Have an 86 MKV with wheel steering and 1Gm10
I've been trying to correct a throttle control lever that will not stay at more than say 1/2 throttle when released from hand
lever can be placed above, but quickly reverts back to 1/2 throttle once the hand is removed
I've examined on both ends and see nothing to adjust cable friction
its seems to me that the internally mounted diesel injection pump is spring loaded
is there a supposed to me a counter spring externally that is missing in my installation?
pleas advise if you can

Alan,
thanks for the reply
think I've got it figured out, for now... Lol
no back flow since yesterday, think I may have had a blockage in the Joker valve, poo not all the way through syndrome
was looking in the owners manual today and am a little shocked with the stated holding tank capacity for the 27, only 5 gallons! although this spec is in reference to a self contained toilet, to me best understanding, this is not a self contained toilet
I've been quite bothered by the manuals poor details in many of the vessels systems when referencing a MkV
the tanks seems larger than 5 gallons, but hard to tell for me. If so, this is quite useless for any on or off shore cruising, pump out costs are not cheap!
as per your suggestion, I will perform some searches here as well will make a call to Rob at South Shore Yachts on the holding tank capacity
for now, I need another pump out!

have been dealing with a temper mental head in my 86 MKV
back flow into bowl is a common occurance
this week I replaced the Joker valve and the base flapper seal
still back flow after app 16 hr period
thought the tank wasn't full, but after checking through the top access, it was
regardless of the tank being full, I have a brand new joker and a brand new flapper, 2 days old!
Certainly I shouldn't be experiencing backflow, or ??
no traps or loops in the discharge hose
any suggestions?
I'm tired of playing Mr Plumber
